Kuala Lumpur ... what a trip.

Taking a midnight bus to KL is no joke man... I can't have a good night sleep as the ride was bumpy. However the company was good. 10 Rotaractors and guest went on a journey to visit district 3300 (Malaysia) and attend RAC Ampang installation. The list of Rotaractors are as follows:

DRR Zakir, Pres Yiling, IPP Junjie, PP Simon, Rtr. Keyuan, Rtr Dawn, Rtr Eileen, Guest Sewling (from RAC Singapore West), Rtr Paul and Rtr Celine (from RAC Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts)

We left Tuas scond link exactly at 0000hrs on 15 Septmber 2006. The six-hour journey was quite smooth. We arrived in KL at approximately 0600hrs and was greeted by members of RAC Ampang (IPP Mun Wai, Rtr Joanne, Rtr Carine). We proceed for breakfast and went to visit the Petronas Twin Tower. It was indeed a breath-taking sight as it was my first time up there.

We later split into two groups, the shopping group and the grooming group. I opted for the grooming group where we went to have our hair cut. In the evening, we attended RAC Ampang installation and met up with DRR Chandra (D3300) and DRR Ruby (D3460-Taiwan Northwest District). I also had the opprtunity to also meet other Rotaractors from D3300.

After the installation, we went back to our apartment for a short fellowship and all of us went to bed as we were too tired.

Next day, we had to say our good byes to everyone.... Thank you everyone for the great time.

Meeting old friends in Melaka and making new friends in Batu Pahat

Melaka is considered a historical state for many Malaysians. For me it is the state where many of my closest Rotaract friends live. On 8 August 2006, after our work, 6 district members (DRR Zakir, IPDRR Audrey, DHS Lilian, DHT Winnie, DComSDC Amanda and DCSDC Kumar) squeezed into DRC John's car and headed towards Melaka.

It was an exciting three-hour journey where we (mainly me) shared our childhood memories and we laughed all the way to Melaka. We reached our destination at approximately 2000hrs, where we met up with out hosts. President Greg and IPP Wee of RAC Kota Melaka (KM) greeted us and we resume to have our deserve SUPPER! It was indeed a good meal as we were deprived of our dinner.

Upon finishing the dinner we went to back to our apartment to settle down and wash up. We then proceed to a cafe called a friends cafe to catch up with one another. We shared stories from the recent APRRC and looked at the photos and videos of the event.

The next day, we went to have the famous hard boiled egg and kaya toast. It was worth the trip. Members of RAC KM, Eugene, Kelvin and myself went to KFC.. Yes KFC to buy a total of 40 piece chicken. Don't worry it is not for me to eat! Do you think I am that greedy?

The chicken purchase was meant for the special kids from the "Happiness centre". This center is dedicated in helping the mentally disabled children in providing them the care and medical aids. It is sad for me to find out that some of teh children in there are abandoned by their parents. It does makes me appriciate life more.

We spend a couple of hours there and interact with the children and the staff there. We then proceeded for lunch and President Greg presented his yr plan and goals for the club.

At about 5 pm, we left for Batu Pahat to attend RAC Batu Pahat Installation. As it was our first time visitng them, we got a bit lost and arrived at the installation late. It was indeed a refreshing feeling as it is the first time I attended an installation that was conducted in Chienese/Mandarin. The installation was entertaining and the Board of directors put up a small dance item for the guest.

It was nearing 11 pm and the installation ended. The seven tired people drove back to Singapore. It was a tiring but fruitful trip.

First stop.. Rotaract Club of Johor Bahru

26 September 2006
Location: Johore Bahru, Malaysia

District Secretary Lilian, District PD Chairman IPP Ang Kah Hian, District MARCOM Director PP Matthew Phua and I (DRR Zakir), went across the causeway to visit our neighbours RAC Johor Bahru. The visit started out in a hospital. No one was sick, it was that the members are having a community service project there.

We arrived at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital and proceeded to the children ward. There we were greeted by President Elango of Rotaract Club of Johor Bahru. After a short introduction of everyone, we proceeded up to the children ward. The members of the Rotaract Club were orgainsing a colouring competition in conjuction with their "Hari Kebangsaan" (National Day) which is on the 31st August 2006.

I manage to interact with the kids and have the priviledge of giving out the goodie bags and prizes to the kids. We manage to also view the beautiful cartoon characters that were done by the Rotaract members a few years back. It was professionally done.

We then proceeded to the "Taat House" where we had our dinner. We had a lot of fun and laughter. It was nice to catching up and sharing ideas with them.

Thank you RAC JB for hosting us.. we indeed enjoy ourselves. Till we meet again.
